This article will zoom in on how Corporate Performance Management (CPM) tools can serve as a complete solution, specifically in the realm of reporting and analysis challenges that the business world faces with data from multiple cloud and on-premise platforms.

Can we all agree that we are already living in a multi-cloud world? A true solution to the challenges that multiple clouds pose can be found in Corporate Performance Management (CPM) and/or Business Intelligence (BI) systems. If you start to count up all of your requisite enterprise technology applications moving to or already in the cloud, it can be overwhelming and challenging to consolidate and/or integrate all of these data sources. There are also on-premise tools to manage, which is where a lot of accounting systems reside. As we continue to expand our understanding of data and how we can leverage this information for more integrated analytics, the multi-cloud experience can seem like a hurdle. This article will focus on reporting as a piece of the BI and CPM pie – and how the right application can be a true solution to life in the multi-cloud era.

Let’s look at this in a more mainstream way by drawing a parallel to video streaming services. Web-hosted, managed by the media corporation, there are increasingly more options to stream high quality programming content. As our media consumption continues to move toward the internet as a platform, there has been a noteworthy shift away from traditional cable and satellite TV options for monthly subscriptions to a number of streaming services. But what happened here for the consumer?

The consumer is responding to an industry disruption by selecting content from places other than the straightforward cable and satellite offerings. However, without DirecTV or Spectrum, it can require a lot of moving between applications, whether on your phone, on a Smart TV, or through a streaming box, like Roku or Apple TV.  In the business world, managers and end users similarly have to move between cloud systems, like a cloud ERP application, Workday or ADP for Human Resources (HR) and payroll matters, an automated email system, a support ticket management tool, Google Analytics to track web site traffic, maybe an event management service, and so on. Logistically, this means not only logging in and out of your different tools to evaluate the metrics locked inside of each cloud system, but additionally, your brain moving in different directions across diverse web user interfaces. Also, most enterprise technologies offer their own proprietary reporting tools, so your team has to learn several unique report writers. Tons of fun, right?
